On a fundamental level, all humans want to find love – and because romance, sex, and partnership are paramount in our lives, we’re naturally obsessed with watching people date. SOMEONE OVER THE RAINBOW is a new super queer reality dating show musical (yes, you read that right!). Set to the discography of dance/pop band Kyven and inspired by Sondheim’s Company, this new musical invites audiences to choose whether or not there really is some ONE or MANY over the rainbow.
KEN SAVAGE (Co-conceiver | he/him) is a queer, first-generation, Asian American producer and director originally from San Francisco and now living in Napa. Ken was the Associate Producer at Oregon Shakespeare Festival and American Conservatory Theater where he has produced and/or directed over 50 productions and new scripts. Other theaters: Ars Nova, NY Theatre Barn, CalShakes, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, The Public Theater, Arena Stage, Playwrights Foundation, Crowded Fire Theater, Feinstein's at The Nikko, Z Space, Manchester International Festival. New musicals in development: GRAVITY: A NEW(TONIAN) MUSICAL (O’Neill Finalist, 2017) and Rachel Lark’s COMING SOON: A NEW ROCK MUSICAL. Education: Stanford University. KYLE EWALT (Co-conceiver, Lyrics, Music | he/him) is a composer, lyricist and recording artist writing for musical theater, ballet and dance/pop. He’s written seven musicals, five with playwright Michael Ian Walker including BROMANCE, produced Off West End at The Other Palace in London. Ewalt’s musical MEET THE VOYAGERS was produced virtually in 2021 and featured live music via actors in multiple geographies. Kyle is the lyricist/vocalist for the dance pop duo Kyven with Steven Shewbrooks having released several albums of electronic music featured in television shows, in-store/in-product compilations and commercials and he’s written lyrics for the last seven Broadway Bares NYC finale numbers. Kyle is a graduate of Berklee College of Music having studied songwriting and vocal styles with Cheryl Bentyne of the Manhattan Transfer.
JESSIA HOFFMAN (Co-conceiver, Book | she/her) is a writer, performer, experience designer, and entrepreneur based in San Francisco. By day, Jessia leads On Deck Workshops – her creative consultancy that utilizes improv to impact company culture. By night, she runs dynamic dating events with Tempo – her passion project to help single folks find love. In her creative career, favorite credits include: Carolyn in THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY (TheatreWorks Silicon Valley); Tracy in HAIRSPRAY (Stanford); Dot/Marie in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (Stanford); improviser with Polite Society Players; writer of SHEILA, an original play; co-creator of GRAVITY: A NEW(TONIAN) MUSICAL (O’Neill Finalist, 2017); co-creator of SOMEONE OVER THE RAINBOW (Berkeley Rep’s Ground Floor, 2023).
