About The Event
The performance is approximately 90 minutes, with no intermission.
ABOUT THE STISSING THEATRE GUILD: The Stissing Theatre Guild was started in 1989 at Stissing Mountain Junior-Senior High School to foster an appreciation of the art of musical theater and has produced a show a year every year since its inception, except for the Covid years. In 2019 The Stissing Theatre Guild expanded to produce plays that have been presented at The Stissing Center. All the production costs for the musicals and plays except for the director’s salary and the music director’s salary come from the sale of tickets, program advertising, and fundraising. These costs include the royalties, set design and production, lighting design, costumes, props, and the cost for choreography and professional musicians that play alongside students in the live pit band for the musicals.
The Advisory Board and parents volunteer time and effort for behind-the-scenes show production and fundraising. The Stissing Theatre Guild presents awards to graduating students who have been active in the many aspects of the theatre program during their years in the Pine Plains School District. The awards are paid for through fundraising and donations.
THE STORY: We want to believe that serendipity brings us together, but is that just a myth? Mining the comedy of missed connections, THIS RANDOM WORLD asks the serious question of how often we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing. From an ailing woman who plans one final trip, to her daughter planning one great escape and her son falling prey to a prank gone wrong, this funny, intimate, and heartbreaking play explores the lives that may be happening just out of reach of our own.
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT: Steven Dietz is an American playwright, theatre director, and teacher. Called “the most ubiquitous American playwright whose name you may never have heard,” Dietz has long been one of America’s most prolific and widely-produced playwrights.
