Coming Home: The Guggenheim Grotto Back in Ireland

Event
Information

Join us for an evening of film and music as Director Will Chase premieres his award-winning film Coming Home: The Guggenheim Grotto Back in Ireland to our Upstate friends and neighbors.

The forty-five minute film will be followed by an acoustic set of some of the band’s fan favorites.

Director and self proclaimed super-fan Will Chase goes to Ireland to film the Irish duo The Guggenheim Grotto (Mick Lynch and Kevin May) as they perform for the first time in a decade, and possibly last time ever.  A love letter to a brotherhood that has spanned decades through many ups and downs, the film becomes an homage to the duo’s body of work and to the nostalgia that holds for so many, especially each other.

Mick Lynch is a singer and songwriter from Dublin, Ireland.
As a founding member of the Irish bands, The Guggenheim Grotto and later Storyman, his music has featured in many TV/Film soundtracks, including One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, Men in Trees, Eli Stone and Brothers and Sisters. The band’s four studio albums enjoyed great critical acclaim, topping the iTunes folk charts in the US and in Ireland.

Of their debut album “Waltzing Alone”, in 2005 , Nic Harcourt of LA’s KCRW declared it “one of the most beautiful records of the year”.
Their song “Philosophia” was such a favorite of Steve Jobs that he made sure it featured on the very first iPhone models. An Independent Music award followed in 2007 for best folk song/songwriting.

Parting ways with his writing partner, Kevin May, in 2013, Lynch has concentrated on his  solo projects, releasing Aliens, Ghosts and Lovers in 2015. Single releases followed with Lawrence of Arabia(2022), Treading Water (2022) and Cold Old River (2023), the latter, a duet with Mary Stuart Masterson. Lynch’s one man show, An Irish Goodbye, directed by Will Chase (Nashville, Stranger Things, A Crowded Room) made its stage debut in April 2024 at Kaatsbaan Cultural Center, in Tivoli NY, to rave reviews.

An Irish Goodbye, with Lynch’s songs and visuals, is a tale of love and loss, of Lynch’s family back home in Ireland and his musical journey that ultimately led him to call Upstate NY home.
