Yeats: In the Deep Heart's Core

Event
Information

In the Deep Heart’s Core is composer and storyteller Joseph Sobol’s musical journey into the life, words, and imagination of W.B. Yeats. Blending folk and Celtic traditions with classical influences, Sobol sets Yeats’s poetry and prose to music for guitar and cittern, creating a song cycle that unfolds as a poet’s autobiography. The work traces Yeats’s dreams, heartbreaks, and spiritual searching, from the early vision of an “ordinary Ireland” to the fierce, mystical voice of his later years. Presented in two volumes—I Am of Ireland and Cast a Cold Eye—the project has been performed in theaters and intimate spaces, including Yeats’s own Thoor Ballylee tower, often featuring vocalist Kathy Cowan. It brings Yeats’s “deep heart’s core” to life through music and story.
